The Safety and Security Sector Education and Training Authority (SASSETA) is a public entity, established in terms of Section 9(1) of the Skills Development Act 97 of 1998.

 

The following performance-based contract position expiring on 31st March 2030 exists in the organisation:

 

BOARD SECRETARY

 

ALL INCLUSIVE ANNUAL REMUNERATION PACKAGE (TCTC): R1 601 021

 

Reporting administratively to the Chief Executive Officer and functionally to the Board, the incumbent shall be responsible for:

 

Fiduciary Advisory and Compliance Function by:

 

  • Advising the Board members on their required fiduciary duties.
  • Communicating to, and advising, the Board on any legal, legislative, and regulatory requirements relating to the governance and oversight over the operations of SASSETA.
  • Advising and reporting to the Board on any compliance matter relating to the SASSETA Constitution or the Skills Development Act 97 of 1998 and Regulations thereto.
  • Advising the Board on Good Governance principles and compliance requirements.
  • Advising the Chamber Committees of the performance of their functions in terms of the SASSETA Constitution and the Act.

 

Reporting and Administrative Management function by:

  • Coordinating Board, Board Committee, sub-committees, and Chamber Committee meetings.
  • Recording and maintaining minutes, reports, and other meeting documentation.
  • Ensuring compilation and proper distribution of reports and/or any other documents directed to the Board and its Committees from Stakeholders and Management.
  • Quality assuring all reports for consumption by Governance Structures.
  • Coordinating the collation and distribution of the Annual Financial Statements to the entitled parties.
  • Facilitating the process to have the policies approved by the Board.
  • Distributing approved Annual Financial Statements to the Stakeholders.

 

Performing Governance function by:

  • Ensuring that the Board, its sub-committees, and Chamber Committees are fully updated and educated on relevant legislation and amendments.
  • Advising and track progress on the Board and its sub-committees' structural and governance compliance requirements and decisions.
  • Developing, reviewing, and maintaining corporate governance policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring that all the Board, its sub-committees, and Chamber Committee decisions and actions comply with made and recorded.
  • Facilitating effective relationships and communication between the Board and the Executive Authority.
  • Identifying and escalating potential corporate governance risks.
  • Developing, updating, and conducting Board induction for new Board members and sub-committees Members.
  • Ensuring that the Board and Board sub-committee meetings are scheduled, coordinated, and conducted and all the administrative requirements are met.

 

Stakeholder Engagement function by:

  • Identifying and developing strategies to optimise key stakeholder relationships.
  • Managing the implementation of stakeholder and stakeholder relationship strategies and building sustainable and resilient relationships with stakeholders.
  • Managing resolution of stakeholder and stakeholder concerns and issues.
  • Influencing stakeholders and stakeholders to support the achievement of the strategic objectives.
  • Assisting to build SASSETA's credibility and reputation in the sector.

 

Staff Management function by:

  • Building capacity within the Board Secretariat Office.
  • Monitoring, evaluating and managing the team performance.
  • Implementing the HR policies and procedures with the team.
  • Recruiting quality team members to support the team and organisation and the achievement of its objectives and strategy.
  • Building a cohesive and high -performing team.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

  • A minimum of NQF Level 8 formal qualification in Law / Commerce / Business Administration / Corporate Governance.
  • A minimum of 6 years’ experience as a Board I Company Secretary.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in rendering legal advice to Governance Structures.
  • A minimum of 3 years of management experience in a SETA environment will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in working with stakeholders of diverse constituencies.
  • Advanced computer literacy.
